Intune Remediations and Run Remediation: automate fixes at device scale

Proactive Remediations is now Remediations in Intune. Use built-in or custom remediation scripts and the new Run Remediation device action to detect and fix device configuration drift without user interaction.

How many devices are out of policy right now and costing your help desk hours? Intune's Remediations feature gives you a way to proactively detect and fix common drift and support issues at scale.

What changed

  • Proactive Remediations has been renamed to Remediations and is available in the Intune admin center under Devices > Scripts and remediations.
  • Administrators can use built-in remediation packages or upload custom remediation scripts that detect a condition and apply a fix.
  • The Device Action "Run remediation" lets you trigger a remediation script on-demand for one or many devices.

How MSPs should use it right away

  • Inventory the built-in remediations and test them in a lab tenant.
  • Package commonly used fixes into signed custom scripts and deploy with targeted groups.
  • Use the Run Remediation action for rapid response to an incident or to remediate a batch of noncompliant devices.
  • Monitor script outputs and remediation status regularly, then surface consistent fixes into automation or change control.

Licensing

  • Remediations require devices or users to have one of the following Windows licenses: Windows Enterprise E3 or E5 (included in Microsoft 365 F3, E3, or E5), Windows Education A3 or A5 (included in Microsoft 365 A3 or A5), or a Windows Virtual Desktop Access (VDA) per user.
  • Devices must also be covered by a Microsoft Intune license (for example, Intune Plan 1 or a Microsoft 365 bundle that includes Intune). Confirm license entitlements in each customer tenant before you deploy Remediations.

Operational notes

  • Remediations run without user interaction so be cautious with actions that change user data or device identity.
  • Use on-demand runs for tight change windows and scheduled runs for known, low-risk fixes.

Takeaway: Add Remediations to your baseline operations toolkit to close device drift faster and reduce repeat tickets. Which remediation will you deploy across customer estates this month?
